عرب لسانی تقسيم کے اعتبار سے سامی ہيں ۔ مورخين نے انہيں تين طبقات پر تقسيم کيا ہے ۔ عرب بائدہ ۔ عرب عاربہ ۔ اور عرب مستعربہ۔ عرب بائدہ وہ قديم طبقہ ہے جو تاريخی دور سے ہزاروں سال پہلے مٹ چکا تھا ۔ عادو ثمود کی قوميں اسی طبقہ سے تھيں ۔ عرب عاربہ کی تاريخ موجود ہے ۔ يہ لوگ يمن کے آس پاس آباد تھے۔ يہی لوگ عرب کے اصل باشندے ہيں ۔ اور عرب کی قديم تاريخ انہيں سے وابستہ ہے ۔ عرب ميں ان کی بڑی بڑی اور ترقی يافتہ حکومتيں تھيں ۔ ان کے عظيم الشان محلات کے کھنڈرات اب تک عرب ميں پائے جاتے ہيں ۔ جو ان کے دنياوی جاہ و جلال کے شاہد ہيں ۔ تيسرا طبقہ عرب مستعربہ کا ہے ۔ يہ حضرت اسماعيلؑ کی نسل سے ظاہر ہوا ۔ ظہور اسلام کے وقت يہی دو طبقے عرب ميں تھے ۔ اور اسلام کی ابتدائی تاريخ انہيں سے وابستہ ہے ۔
